Mammals
Africa’s diverse landscapes host over 1,100 species of mammals, including three endemic orders – the aardvark, tenrecs & golden moles, and elephant shrews. Many insectivores, bats and rodents are rarely observed, and aren’t fully described.
I dream of capturing the spirit of these creatures – the sleek intensity of a nocturnal predator, the often fleeting presence of an antelope, or the majesty of Africa’s iconic giants. It is a challenge: some species are nearly impossible to find (I’ve spent 50 years hoping to see a pangolin), others exist in shrinking habitats, or face uncertain futures. Personally, each photograph celebrates their existence, and highlights the urgency of their conservation.
